Chrismas is coming.....hohoho

And i still have a present or two to manufacture..but can check the parents off the list...

they have two schnauzers...Schad and Mattie..so i did a watercolor with my caran d'ache neocolors ii on kilimanjaro wc paper for them....and i thought you might like to see the process...

this is what it looks like after i "color" it with the neocolor crayons....pale washed out...doesnt look like much does it?

then comes the fun...i use a big haiki brush loaded with water to release the color...i dont stroke it but kind of blot it across the surface of the painting...if you stroke it the colors blend together...as it is they will run together...and you have to blot that up with artists tissue aka toilet paper....a handy endless supply of blotting paper...

so then i go back in and enhance it with indigo blue and sometimes black or deep violet faber castell watercolor pencils while the picture is WET...you get good juicy colors out of the pencils when you use them on damp or wet paper....the blue combines with black to make a really deep black...

i added white gouache to the eyes and a little in the eyebrows and beard to spark the painting a little...i think when you add the highlight in the eyes it makes the person or animal come to life....well then i noticed a light yellow spot to the right of the right dog....and went back and colored it....i had wiped the yellow off

and here they are ready to be framed...first i will let it dry over nite..and sign it of course!!

awesome - your parents are very lucky. BTW I also have schnauzers - the Giant black variety :LOL. Schnauzers are an amazing breed.

They turned out fantastic. Thank you for showing the process. Have you ever done this on fabric and is the process the same?
