I am back...A mystery picture

and have a ton of things to post but will try to get them up a few at a time this week...been a very busy jam packed week....

first things first...our drawing class...

Yesterday was drawing class...all about textures...Prof Sweet, the teacher, gave each of us small squares of a drawing to reproduce using different textures and a 4B and a 5B pencil and a kneaded eraser on Strathmore 80 lb drawing paper. I forgot to add that we have no idea what this picture will look like...until we join all 20 of our squares together next class...some were still unfinished when we left yesterday!! A mystery picture!!!

The first two inch square
My 12" signature drawing....i still need to go over the white areas...with an H pencil wonder how many signatures that will take?!

The first one we had to reproduce was done by using our signature over and over and over in one direction....we were supposed to keep the pencil sharp BUTTT i was too tired from all my galavanting around GA to get up and sharpen it...and of course i had left my flock of Bs at home...last week i had brought all of them but not this week...they were in the car trunk...and of course i did not want to stop drawing or should i say writing long enough to go get them......i started improvising using parts of my name...the g in Margaret and the H in hunt were great for making straight edges. The M done pointy had its uses too...but darned if i could do the t on the end to work for anything...
my second two inch square...my second 12 inch square...not a great picture...its actually MUCH darker than this...we got to pick the texture to use on this one...this is done with vertical lines and some that run vertically and diagonally...really like this effect and going to try it some more

more journal sketching

at lowes and taco bell...and then a movie i was watching today...needed to fill in the right side...from August Rush...bytw it was a great movie...great music...but DONT watch Darjeeling LTD ...gorgeous scenery of India BUT silly movie...

LOVE the sketches from lowes and taco bell...did you know that people stand still for a long time both at Lowes(paint department) and in the line at taco bell while you are driving thru the drive thru...what better opportunity to sketch people ...they are there in a glass fishbowl just waiting for you!!

but not the one from the movie...kept fiddling with them and then i forgot to put the highlights in their eyes...thier lips were too red...you name it i messed them up...oh well...bytw these were all done with Faber Castell or Derwent WC pencils...and a sepia pen which died quickly...the brown was some fabric dye that i dyed the paper with before drawing on it...

update on the waffle house sketches...Anita had wondered how i had time to draw them AND do all that shopping...i actually drew them while i was in a meeting so they were done BEFORE the shop athon that day....

they had not been colored last you saw them...now they are TWICE....first time there was no contrast with the picture background and the ribbon edge of the blocks...so i recolored some of the blocks and made the ribbons in a better contrasting color...that $3000 check is trying to disappear AGAIN though...NO contrast there...NO i am NOT redoing it:>

So I got a new Epson Photo printerscannercopier

the price was right...if you go to Wolfe Camera you can get an Epson CX7400 photostylus printer copier scanner all in one with durabrite inks FREE! well after you do the rebate...the deal is you have to buy a digital camera and you get the printer free with a rebate...to boot they throw in a really cool hardcover photoalbum also FREEEEE...yahoo that for us...so i got a $15 digital camera...i can use it on the pc at school to take pics when i forget my big camera....the rebate is already in an envelope all ready to be mailed in with the UPC and the receipt...so it will be back soon...so i got the printer and the book and a camera for $15...did i say i was shopping for another printer since my old trusty HP was 5 years old and beginning to sound grouchy...i had broken the paper feeder tray too...and i have a HUGE widebed epson that i have never been able to get to work with the HP conflicting with it...so maybe now i can use that one too...it will print hi quality pics with the inks that it has...ok i know there was something else...back to the top to the pics...

These are the first scans hot off the new scanner...Breakfast, the check, and our fav waffle house coffee cups...did i say we are waffle house regulars?!

double spread...one problem...can not find a place in the new software that will stitch them together and i can not no matter what i do get into my old HP editing software...tournament watchers abounded at The Waffle House today...polos and bermudas with deck shoes or tasseled loafers were the order of the day...diamond rolexs too...and sun visors..this lady had on one...bytw this sketch took just seconds while i was waiting for marsha and connie

so will try again tomorrow when these are colored...this was a journal page of my morning at waffle house for breakfast ...very eventful...Marsha found a $3000 yes thats THREE THOUSAND dollar check in the parking lot ...the guy was buying a golf cart...must have partied tooo much because she found the check and the contract in the waffle house parking lot...then i got some scrambled eggs...there was a hair in mine...ICKKKKK...they gave me my breakfast....after that the day went better!!

We shopped till we dropped...new clothes time....out with the winter and in with spring and soon summer....so Hambricks...and then to help my friend Ille shop for her new camera and i got the printer...and what else...OH michaels...with our coupons bought some canvases and then off to the gym...two hours installing the printer and it finally works...now off to make the bed!!
GOT to go back to work so i can rest...

OHHH and we beat the 100000 patrons at the Par 3 at the Augusta National home...no heavy bumper to bumper traffic for us! Tomorrow racing off the green house in Appling then zipping off to Aiken and NO I am NOT going to Hobby Lobby tomorrow.

Lemon challenge

Lemons....and lemon water from Earthfare...these are really odd enormous lemons..the one on the right almost has a tripod under it from bumps on the lemon...and they are just huge...i was going to pick up a third lemon when i was at Publix today...theirs were half the size of Earthfares and they were not organic and they were NOT cheaper than the Earthfare lemons

OH about that cup...ummm i glued it on ...didnt like the big stenopad that was the right hand side before i added the cup...my grandmother is famous in family legend for cutting out an eye and adding it to a picture so i thought why not...well i can tell you why not...DONT use so much glue it oozes out under the cup!!:>

The view from my window EDM challenge

This is the view out one of our den windows...I guess i need to draw the view out all of our windows they are all so different but the birds love to sit on the branches of these trees...Saturday a bright cardinal rested for a minute or two...and no the branches are NOT growing into the house...just thought it would be fun to draw them that way...the windows on the front of the house are quite narrow...two feet across so i made the "gun slit" wider!:>

Summer fruit

Bought some strawberries and blueberries yesterday for my son to feed into the ever whirring blender for smoothies with EWUUUU WWWW whey...he drinks them round the clock...
Painted in my moleskine wc tablet with DS WC....I scraped some of the highlights into them with the box cutter....all purpose tool!
I think this one needs a shadow under it...I was just trying out layering colors on the back of another sketch with this one...but it turned out pretty well i think...i actually was patient for once and let the colors dry in between instead of adding more color while they were wet...

So its the sixth of may...

hmm what happened to cinco de mayo??? anyway sat out on the front porch today enjoying the lovely cool weather after a weekend of rain and the breeze....and painted these...these are the culprits of the small gum ball...well first three are oaks...the one on right is the HUGE sweet gum tree that was dropping all the gum balls on the driveway...its so tall I couldnt see any leaves...it terrifies people when they back down our driveway...people that built our house laid the driveway out so you have to back up AROUND the trees...which is only right since these are old growth trees...I had fun playing around with both of these with the flowy juicy colored wet wc paints...and i really went to town on the second one...I was trying to get some of the i think its azilarin red into it and had fun letting it just flow around ...\bytw you might need your shades:>

Okay so i already tried to post this once and i lost it...

I drew this one Hmm Was it May first of a little old lady eating by herself in what is an Augusta GA institution....the village deli in Daniel Village Shopping Center....i remember going here for Jewish rye bread when I was a kid...now it has been remodeled and enlarged ...half of it is decorated in Masters Golf TOurnament memorabilia..the side this lady is sitting on ...and half of it is decorated with some Augusta memorabilia but mostly airplane stuff because its by the air strip at Daniel Field...a small airport that is loaded up during masters week with private jets...i think there were 74 this year...yes someone counts them...who knew::>>>>>>

so here goes again...

Tom obliging posed for me taking over bad kitties job...a little rusty drawing cats with a pen...I kept thinking about what danny gregory says about you have to look at something when you draw...and color it...i forgot that toms face had a lot of white on it...I know chalk it up to tired from school??? COULDNT be a senior moment:>

this is the sketch that i am distressed about...it has bleed thru from the Village Deli page ...used my faber castells at first to color it...but then changed to WN paints...the FC were not giving enough color...and look at the mess they made of this page...which WAS one of my favs...thank goodness I scanned it!!!

well is this day two or three of may...

l

JUST FOR FUN

what day in may is this anyway??? the third?? right?? okay so far i am one drawing ahead for the month now...my poor molie is languishing in my bag this week...
THE BEGINNING
OKAY so WHY did i post three sketches...two of which you have seen...they are all the same little girl...so you could see how shes changed...i still think my fav one is the one from the back..something about a little kid curled up that is just SOOO cute!
THE END
I really like the sketchier look but it seems to get an exact likeness you have to shade with your pencil...not sure i like that but she turned out like a twin...hmmm how artistic is it to do a portrait that is close to a photo of a person??? ANYWAY problems with the first one..her nose was too long...almost always do that...her mouth ...now how did i do this ...her mouth was OFF center...poor baby...and her eyes were a hair or two too wide...fixing that got her to come out and visit...and it is like they are coming out to visit you when they appear on the paper looking just like themselves...its always such a surprise to me ...dont know why ...when they appear!!!

THis is the last of the sketches for mothers day ...thank goodness...and this one looks JUST like him too..he was not nearly the pain the little girl was although in real life its just the opposite...shes a sweety and hes a little on the fiesty side.

ANYWAY thats it the end KAPUT ...HALLELUJAH all 17 of them are done...

Hmm I am sure you are bored of my kids drawings

by now...BUT hey what can i say...i see a lot of kids and they LOVE to pose for me....tickles them to death that I draw them...yesterday after school I sat with six of my fav kindergarteners and we all drew together....but thats for tomorrow...i do have to brag on them ...they can draw as well as the fifth graders...but shhhh dont tell the fifth graders!

Oh about the sketches...really like the pencil lines of the first one better than the ink in the second...and i found that not all pencils were the same...even if they were #2...two diff pencils on the two pages...

four more kids and only hmm is it two or three to go???

i think its actually 2 1/2...MY what a difference a day and a new sheet of paper can make...this is her ...as i told the kids...She came to visit us on the paper...its funny one little line will make them appear like magic...it happened several times with this set of pictures...

Someone asked how long it took...each one...maybe a half an hour...I started all of these differently than the others...i drew tick marks for the eyes and nose width which were all equal...and that really helped...then the nose and mouth and eyebrows...last was the outside shape of the face...backwards i think but seemed to work much better!!

The first two are a sweetie pie who i started yesterday and completely started over again today ...the new one looks just like her...she had to wait to be the very last one today because she got called to group and someone took her seat so she couldnt be first today like i promised her yesterday afternoon...she was just tickled to be drawn...one of the other little girls who i drew months ago pouted all day because i did not do her today...she had forgotten that i had done her...

This little boy was sooo tickled and pleased with his portrait once it started to look at him he could not hold still..kept racing around to see how he looked...say "thats me thats me" when i had to erase his nose and move it up he said "dont erase me dont erase me" hes sooo funny...i dont think he quit smiling all day...

This is the little girl with the famous hair bows and barrettes...she had on the prettiest shirt today...like she came dressed to have her portrait drawn...well i did promise her she was next...and she was!!! I think her nose is a touch long but everyone knows who it is...

This one is not done...everyone but me thinks it looks like him...even he thinks it looks like him!!! Stay tuned for more of this one!!!

some more kid sketches and a daily drawing

This is the little girl of the hairbow fame....she has the thickest hair braided and just full of all these neat barrettes....she even had poodles in her hair today...i think its a really cute drawing...she wants it and so do i....guess i will let her have it ...she got the character award at this six weeks honors day...so she deserves it!! She was sitting on the rug paying attention like a good girl during circle time...amazing how they grow up in one year...i think i had almost forgotten!
hope i am finally getting back in the groove with that....decided i had to make myself draw whatever was laying around when i had a spare moment...even if i didnt like it...i do like the swan and the darn i think its a sugar dish -hotel silver. the swan is mccoy and the dish is hotel silver my mom got somewhere probably at the market aka flea market but its really cool and different...and i have always liked odd ball ceramic animals...dont ask why ...i just do...i have a cat, a hippo, a couple of elephants and the swan...we use the swan for a napkin holder....and splenda in the sugar dish...

U finally got the this little girl right...she loves it...shes is such a pretty princess..This is the before sketch,,,,her eyese were not stratight on her face...one was higher than the other, her face was too long and her ears were too small....she finally decided to hold still for me today...

This is a tiny little boy who is just the sweetest thing...He just sprang right out of the paper in i bet 15 minutes or so...his hair is always slightly messy like he went to bed with it wet but I combed it for him...cant have his hair messy in a portrait can we??

This one still needs some work....shes coming along but not there...odd because the little boy just sprang right out of the paper...and the two girls have been a struggle....she wanted me to draw the decoration on her head...when i asked her if i shoudl give her long hair she said uhuh...she had asked me to give her more hair....so i did...

OK i have always wondered how journalers and altered art people have done these letters...but was watching one of the students do it and all of a sudden i went oh goodess that is sooo easy...heres what i did....

Hairbowcity

Yesterday the little girls had at least ten different kinds and colors of hairbows in thier hair...and there were only four different girls that had them!

Some of them are the most beautiful clear jelly colors like purple and orange pink and others are baby blue pink and yellow...what a colorful playful array...I know they loved their hair yesterday!! We adults sure did!!! They were beautiful in thier brightly accessorized hair!

Some more kid sketches...do they count as

daily drawings since i seem to be doing them daily....the kids just LOVE them...the first one is just a preliminary sketch..thought you might find that interesting....he was soo funny he kept saying draw me draw me ms hunt and when I finally started after telling him he had to hold still...he tried very hard and would look at me around his nose to see if he was doing it right...of course since none of them hold still he was doing the best job of any of them!! he was too cute...hes the next one...will no doubt be bugging me tomorrow draw me draw me!

this is one of our girls...maybe in ten years...she looks too old...i think its the shape of her face...being a busy pretty princess she is hard to keep up with...more work is needed...

This one turned out pretty much perfect...hes a great kid...a real sweet heart..he was worried i wouldnt get all the buttons on his shirt or his stripes...funny things he worries about

This little kid is a redhead that will steal your heart..hes so genuine...and hes just sooo funny....with the most gorgeous red hair and a flock of freckles...he was trying to pay attention...

So i finally broke down and did

a challenge #114...This is a face jug also called an ugly jug...guess you can see why!:> We call our face jug Dave...hes almost a member of the family always sitting in a place of honor & safety because despite his ugliness hes fairly valuable. He was made by Lanier Meaders back in the 70s. The glaze is called tobacco spit...a strange combination of brown with black. His teeth and eyes are made from a flat white kaolin clay. If he had rock or china teeth which some of them do he would be worth twice as much. We love our Dave anyway and dress him up from time to time..this is Dave ready for the Braves baseball season!

revived the art of face jugs supposedly started by a slave named Dave in Edgefield County South Carolina. Edgefield is about 25 miles from where i live...if this were a real Dave face jug it could be worth more than $100000....BUT our dave is a modern example made in the mountains of north Georgia. Heres a picture of another even uglier one than ours...and I see its gone up in value!! YEAH!

the weeks slew of daily drawings

i definitely have a fascination for these now....and keeping it up like crazy...which is something of an amazement to me...I rebel at ANYTHING i have to do on a daily basis...something to do with that a daily job is enough commitment???? SO HERE THEY ARE!!!!

These have all changed since i scanned them so i will be rescanning and post them again later today or tomorrow I HOPE:>

And these are my portraits drawn by one of my very talented kindergartners...I think shes pretty good even if i dont have a ponytail!
