a few last sketches from May

Leeann reading on the porch

well i started these in may for the everyday in may challenge......just the sketch part...but did the watercolor last nite ...

These are done in my moleskine with watercolor pencil...to keep the trees sort of loose(LOOSE for ME:>) i just touched the pencil with a wet brush and let it do what it wanted...did a similar thing on the leaves of the plants....I posted both because i think its interesting how different they are in color intensity although i colored both of them within minutes of each other...i think it must have to do with the ink in the second one...used brighter colors on that one.

I did this one twice because i did not like the way the ink sketch turned out...i like it much better now that it is colored....Leeanne, my son Drew's girlfriend, is a big reader...they both are.....I think they are catching up on all the reading they missed when they were in law school...so they both make great subjects for sketches when they are here...

everydayin may

surely has turned into a FEW days at the end of may....have stuff done...just no time to post or to scan....usually i plan ahead a little but NO not this time....maybe now i can?!!!

The kids and i were drawing the last day of school waiting for class to start....this little girl gave me the prettiest Gerberia...she drew it while i drew her! Shes the most beautiful little girl inside and out...and has such a great head of hair with lots of braids...she was telling me all about her ballet recital the night before as we drew....we are going to miss this class...a BUNCH of sweeties!!

I think its odd that the white copy paper is GREY...its all wrinkley and tatty because one of the kids kept grabbing my drawings and getting them very wrinkley....

So you all said you werent tired of people yet

This is one of my son that i actually did in wc...hes known as the lawyer with the pretty hair...which my neighbor another lawyer says translates as the ladies think hes the handsome lawyer..funny angle on his head because he wasnt really sitting up straight...nor was he sitting back on the sofa...i actually think this one looks a little like a vintage wc portrait from the 1800s...hes growing a mustache but thinks he needs the goattee part while he grows the mustache...strange i think but what do i know i am mom?!

as i said most days in may

posting two since i forgot to post any yesterday....the kids arriving for mothers day weekend kept me busy yesterday!!...in a good way...

this is a sketch from a photo of some of the kids hamming it up for the camera for Hat and Sunglasses day...the little girl in the middle is actually just gorgeous NOT that you can tell in this picture...the letters were supposed to be red UNTIL I smeared them ALOT ...only thing i could do was to paint all the outside background red and add blue letters....

OH the hat...Edgar was so eager to get to reading group that he just discarded/abandoned his well loved orange baseball hat on the table...also done from a picture...shouldnt take a picture of an orange baseball hat on a RED table...NO contrast!!!

in my wc moleskine with faber castell colored pencils...

Everyday in May...

the cat obligingly posed on the table on the backporch...he thinks its his hunting preserve...hunting for chameleons...poor babies...he LOVES them...had a little trouble with the mesh top of the table...i mean HOW do you paint all the tiny mesh holes....and still keep it transparent..hmm and what happened to those chair legs on the left...and why is part of the table mesh and part not??? too many questions too many flaws BUT anyway here it is...i just have these all out order...should have been posted sunday...oh well...better late than never right?!
