another hoochy mama

49"x49"

I am teaching the hoochy mama class at Branums sewing and vacuum on Dec 13...i had thought about making a pink one but could not find any pink and green polka dots when i dropped the other hoochy mama quilt off at Branums...and i found this great green lime green and red one by RObert Kaufman...that was all it took to get me to make a Christmas Hoochy Mama...what better quilt for a Christmas time class?...wild and zany once again
I started cutting it up at our guild retreat Friday nite about seven ...went home for the nite and by 2 pm had sewn up nine blocks...i would have had more done IF i had not decided to do the churn dashes off kilter...whacky...all the cuts in the nine patch were not parallel...I had one of them left over...so i pieced it together today while i was chain piecing the wild geese....i mean i would NOT want to get bored...i finally figured out that if i put a piece of tape on the side i was sewing i would not twist the pieces...next time i would number them too...i hate to think of how many pieces i twisted in the first two whacky drunkards paths....of course though this one went together perfectly i really should deconstruct it so that the corner blocks show up better...
this one MIGHT end up as a small quilt for a Christmas present or it could end up in the leftover block pile with the leftover block from the last hoochy mama quilt...

Now i think i need to make a story quilt....what was that line about the mistake fairy???? after all i have to unsew the christmas top on the right...the wild geese trees are upside down...sighhhhh...and here i was going to have it quilted by midnite:> BG

wonder what the kids at school will think about it...they wanted to sit on the black one after they got done ohing and ahing over it...show and tell for tomorrow

Hoochy Mama and even another quilt

These are both quilts i had started...the first one is Mary Lou Wiedemanns Hoochy Mama Quilt a quilt made using innovative piecing...no rules...few rulers except to square up the individual blocks...there are many more varieties of these blocks that the star and churn dash that i made...

I started this when we were in the mountains in August...I do wish i had used not used so many different background prints...really an easy quilt...because of the no rules crazy piecing...biggest trouble was squreing all the blocks up...all
the back of the quilt
I started this quilt for my dad the marine back in January and finally finished quilting it...hes now snoozing under it in Asheville recovering from triple heart by pass ...tough man to be doing well at the age of 86 after that surgery!! Its quilted with all the places he was stationed through out his military career and places that he lived....all done in script all over the quilt top.
