EDM Challenge #77 - Cool

So I didnt read the directions first when I drew the glass of tea and the water bottle....my two fav ways to keep cool other than air conditioning when the temp spikes to 95 with the humidity the heat factor was 105 yesterday but not a drop of sweat from me...I was chillin as the kids say....

So after I drew that page which really was fun....i thought about where was it cool...the coolest place I have been lately is the mountains of NC and Tennessee. This is a Derwent watercolor pencil & pigma pen sketch of a house in an old abandoned vacation town called Edmonton in the Great Smokey Mountains National Park.

Originally Edmonton was a longing camp but the rich people from Knoxville built all these houses. When the park bought the land the government agreed to let them stay on with a life time lease. WHen the leasee died the family could no longer use the house....Its a very interesting place with dozens of cottages moldering into ruins. None of them are the same-each a very unique and individual place built seemingly at the whims of the builders. The houses are now on the National Historic Registry. Hopefully that means the park will restore them instead of tearing them down....they would be a great vacation spot or a camp for kids or a place to hold an art retreat...its a very beautiful place with a raging creek running thru it.

This is a sketch of my intrepid explorer oldest son Beau in front of one of the houses. Now you might wonder what this card has to do with cool...not a thing...it was just on the scanner. Its stamped from the Nana stamp I made Thursday. Making stamps is sooo easy I wonder I didnt do it sooner....and I wrote the haiku in a hurry...as I was mailing one of the cards.

My favorite of all these wonderful drawings is the Elkmont Inn. I love the way you selectively used the pen and also the way the windows look. Really nice sketch. The stamp is really beautiful too, and I've been wanting to learn how to make rubber stamps and now you say it's easy. Would you care to share the how-to? I'd love to know. Do you use watercolor on the stamp or ink? I know a technique for using latex paint on the stamp, to make a pattern under watercolor paint that forms a slight resist and want to make stamps to use for that purpose but don't know how.
