todays classwork

CLASSWORK

and some homework...

this is what i finished in watercolor class today with Jim Gensheer...its on the dark side but i like it...i think...but i had to paint another when i got home

i lost my whites on the posts on both houses...waiting for the gouache i ordered from cheap joes to fix that...did you know that you can only enter a watercolor contest IF you use watercolor or gouache...you cant if you use acrylic even though its a water medium...after all its in watercolor magazine alot ...but NOT for a wc show...who knew...Teachers house...jim gensheer

what else these are all painted on kilimanjaro paper from cheap joes...140 lb...lays flat as a flitter when its completely dry....the houses done correctly have raw sienna on them...but the first one...decided to go even darker with umbers...to define the house...i had a problem with atht one ...my shadows did not start out with blue but with a greyish purply color...and it did not react well with the raw sienna...could not get a grey ...just a mucky red color....so i over painted the shadows again with the umber mix...

HOMEWORK

this house is really not tipped...its the angle of the camera that did that...and then i cropped it...at least i HOPE it isnt..i know i drew it straight because i checked that...i think the foreground path could go a little darker...but not bad...i got my trees and posts scratched in pretty well in this one unlike the first one...and i actually remembered to do them...did you know there is actually a tool to make these scratchy marks?! who knew?!

...the trees were wildly out of control for a while but i went back in and put more burnt sienna and ultramarine in to correct the color. ...they were too black..i wet the sky down and the trees with clear water...and then added ultramarine and burnt umber to the originals...they look alot better but they did get a LITTLE tall!!

OH the grass...he used a fan brush...i couldnt find mine when i got home so i used a ruined wash brush with fairly thick paint to do the background...not necessarily ez to do when you are trying to avoid painting those little bitty porch posts....shoulda used the tape!! i do like the color of these shadows better...

color of the house? raw sienna LIGHTLY brushed....i almost got carried away again and did too much but i think i stopped JUST barely in time...

now if i could just keep my whites...oh a tip.....he had us put masking tape down both sides of the house and across the porch roof and right post and across the bottom of the porch so that we would not mess up our whites...course i was too lazy to do that tonite...shhh dont tell him!!:>

okay family..you better let me know which is your fav...thats if i dont sell some of these first...ready made christmas presents...what was i thinking planning on knitting everyone sweaters..this is MUCH faster!! two hours tops....
