Off and on yesterday and today I have been making birthday postcards...too much fun...first I stamped Happy Birthday on them using different letter stamps and had to experiment with color...
Then I cut out cake...chocolate of course and the plate and candle. They were pinned down to the backgrounds...and then yarns were couched with invisible thread. Boucle was used to give the icing decoration effect...and whatever suited my fancy on the backgrounds...have several large boxes of yarn...leftovers from doll making. This one will get some beads for sprinkles in the icing...originally I tried to smear some pearlex on the background of this one ...a big mistake so I just used a bunch of stamps and stamped all over the background yellow hand dyed fabric...chenille was used for the flame. I relettered happy birthday because it was light like the ones below...still have to sew the backs on all four...
Both of these will get relettered...so that they show up better...couched fuzzy fun yarn all over the background...The second one will have a very raggedy edge.
Right now I think this one is my favorite. I couched pink chenille yarn on the background...I wasnt happy with the stamped letters but decided I liked them after all even if they arent perfect...love that sale at Hobby Lobby last week on stamps...wehere I bought the type writer key stamps and the pearlex...
Now how to finish the edge...which one is your favorite..be careful what you say..it may end up on your door step...

I did a birthday cake post card, but it was much more abstract LOL! These are great!
They're great! I've done 2 edge finishes so far: satin stitch and straight stitch with a pinked edge. My favorite was satin stitch, especially when done with a subtly variegated thread like the new King Tuts...
they're great M. I like the fun yarn background. I bet you're machine couching, not by hand like I would take forever doing.
My birthday is Oct 11... :)
