Lemon challenge Part deux

So i redid the lemon challenge because of the silly cup...and in answer to some inquiries about my grandmothers cutting and pasting eyes....she had drawn a lovely lady in pastel but was not happy with one of the eyes and according to family legend she drew another eye and glued it over the one she did not like...in the collection of Joyce and Gary Lytle

and then i remembered that i actually had another lemon that i had done in fabric for International Quilt Festival a few years ago...I made the fruit of the month...one a month for nine months that year...these are paper sized and were to be a set of nine journal quilts...this is the first one in that string and is thread painted...which means that instead of drawing them with pencils I drew them with various colored threads......they were done yearly from 2002 to this year which is the last year of the journal quilt culminating in a book Creative Quilting: The Journal Quilt Project in which i was honored to have more pages than any other of the participants except Gloria Hansen...TOO cool I thought:>

The view from my window EDM challenge

This is the view out one of our den windows...I guess i need to draw the view out all of our windows they are all so different but the birds love to sit on the branches of these trees...Saturday a bright cardinal rested for a minute or two...and no the branches are NOT growing into the house...just thought it would be fun to draw them that way...the windows on the front of the house are quite narrow...two feet across so i made the "gun slit" wider!:>

A memory drawing? and the crazy things jack russells do

I drew this one from memory and it has all kinds of problems...jazz's head is too small, the toilet...well the back is the same size as the bowl...now thats a problem..think i will redraw it from life when i take a nice long bath this afternoon...all i have to do is throw the ball in the toilet and she will sit there for hours wanting it...patiently waiting and waiting...bytw the ball is now in the trash can in the bathroom and i found her another one at school...evidently Aetna passed out these squeezy apples to all the teachers...

The story that goes with this is funny...we have a deep jacuzzi tub which i love to loaf in and read paperback books..currently sucking up all the Laurie R. King books. Anyway jazz brings me money to throw so she can fetch it...and i launch it blindly similar to a pitching machine...she puts it my hand and i flip it whereever....but this time we were using a squishy apple ball...it ended up in the toilet...i thought she had gotten tired of our game or couldnt find it and gave up...but when i got out of the tub...she was pointing at the toilet like the RCA VICTOR dogs(also Jack Russells) ...she had been sitting there for at least a half an hour..now shes too short to see into the toilet...so how did she know it was there? she didnt see it go in...she could smell it...thats the only option left....

one small drawing

of the first day back at school...with a few notes so that i would remember what was being said..this is the fifth grade teachers who were sitting to my left....third try drawing lively...and it really does look like her...the other two NOT...just sketching them in...

have i drawn anything else...yes i did for the teachers but its all at school...school buses and star fish:> not exactly blog worthy but it does count as daily drawing right??? i even drew the back and front of the bus...BYTW its too hot to do much here except lay around and try to stay cool..something like 115 with the heat index...hottest in 129 years

oooh ten days has gone by without a post

ONE OF THE TABLES IN OUR CLASS

my bad...i will try to do better but I have been painting EVERYDAY since i got home from athens...or plastering or repainting...and then there are the curtains i started...and i read HPotter 6 and checking the mailbox shortly to see if the Hedwig the owl delivered HP7 yet...slight snafu at Amazon ...as in i clicked on my old Credit card ## not the new one that replaced it...soooo its not here yet....wahhh.... and i stayed up all nite reading HP 6 so i would be ready to see how it all ends!!

In the meantime I have painted four and 1/2 rooms in our house in the last ten days...i couldnt stand living in the chaos of taking down wallpaper while i was gone...DID I SAY I HATE WALLPAPER...the plaster dust..the mess...YUCK>...now i can paint without getting paint allover me or all over the ceiling or floor...i actually learned to house paint...
ATHENS CLASSMATES

Here are some of the things i learned...well it might be obvious to you but my dad who we all learned to house paint with espoused the slap the paint on the mullions and MAYBE scrape it off later attitude...so what did we know??

  • I learned to use a damp rag to clean up as i go ...wrapped around a small putty knife its FABULOUS!!!
  • I learned how to keep my brush from dripping everywhere as i painted...duh...you dont use the bucket...you get a wide mouth cup with an inch or so of paint in it...
  • I learned how to cut in ...well most of the time...when it didnt work out as planned I had my trusty wet clean up rag...and wet is really better than damp!:>
  • I also learned that those silly plastic sheets DONT work very well...the paint falls off them when they are dry....
  • OH and i learned that the little rubber maid cups and bowls were perfect for painting...and MUCH cheaper than those fancy things they sell at Lowes ....
  • And did you know that light switches in bedrooms have DIRT behind them...now how does that happen??? so did the plugs...
  • BLUE tape stinks...it leaves a nasty edge on the paint when you use it on the molding and it also LEAKS....WHO needs that??? and it sticks to you and everything else...I think its much stickier than masking tape...OH and pulls paint off the walls...ask me how i know??!

  • HMMM I know i learned other things...like its always hot at the ceiling:> but i cant reemmemebrere r what else...

so now for some eye candy:> what you came to see right?
OUR CLASS TABLE CENTERPIECES

When i was in athens i drew during class...i know ...bad right BUT they were reading books to us verbatim...word for word....and fed us like we were feeder pigs going to slaughter...we got really sleepy and really bored...so i started drawing almost everyone in the class that i could see to draw! and here are some of them!

a little.. i even started the bird challenge...did i finish it...NO...but i did start it...that counts right? .....busy taking down wallpaper and garage sales and packing youngest son off for first job...and well you get the drift....

jazz was trying to take a nap and i kept talking to her so she couldnt relax...i know i was driving her nuts...:>

So I am ahead for day is it really day 25???

This is the one i did not finish...and since i did not lay all the stuff back out...it may have a problem or two? Can you find it?:> Had to add some lime green in the shadows...my box of prismacolor art sticks has the lovely big stick of LIME green...think for june i will try to insert lime green in everything i do:> I was watching the first season of 24 on dvd while i was working on this...boy that show is just riveting...and very interesting visually...finished a whole sock from the heel to the toe while watching five of the shows...the beat of the music gets those needles clicking at top speed:>

This is the first one...see why i didnt post it...wasnt finished and it was terrible:>

yesterdays daily drawings

Drew these at a staff development class...new fodder for the pen every Tuesday...stationary adults!!! The lady with her hair up started out as a small sketch of the teacher but then i had fun giving her huge earrings and messing with her hair...you know if you dont know the people you can do whatever you want to them:> ...remind me NOT to give out my blog addy!

One of the teachers asked me if i was starting a second career when she saw what i was doing..she was impressed...they must look ALOT better upside down!;> Sorry I just could not resist posting them upside down...sorry my bad!!:> Hmmm they do look better than i thought they did yesterday...sketched in the margins of a class handout...pretty pink isnt it??? I also have yellow and orange handouts...funnnnn....

Hmm I am sure you are bored of my kids drawings

by now...BUT hey what can i say...i see a lot of kids and they LOVE to pose for me....tickles them to death that I draw them...yesterday after school I sat with six of my fav kindergarteners and we all drew together....but thats for tomorrow...i do have to brag on them ...they can draw as well as the fifth graders...but shhhh dont tell the fifth graders!

Oh about the sketches...really like the pencil lines of the first one better than the ink in the second...and i found that not all pencils were the same...even if they were #2...two diff pencils on the two pages...

A couple of new sketches

tired of looking at kids yet??? they are too funny to me...their antics....here are some more of them...these were stressing out as they have to pass the test to go to the next grade...if they dont they will be in summer school and have to pass the test there or back in thier grade till they do pass...we may have some VERY tall third and fifth graders soon...

Hmmm i was coveting andrea joseph's fabulous collections...but i guess i am drawing collections too...just different ones...faces!!:> The little girl on the right is not a bad drawing...shes just VERY round....and the boy on the bottom...his spitting image...amazing how sometimes they just pop right onto the paper in seconds...

Oh and i started a shoe drawing craze...they love to draw their shoes since i gave them permission too...who knew...so funny!

okay so in between knitting and sewing like a

maniac I have been drawing...

GOODNESS COLOR...a journaled page of our class with Kristi that i kept forgetting to scan once i wc penciled it...did i say i really prefer color...i think all of these pages could really benefit from some COLOR!!!
I really liked this living room on one of those designer rooms..going to have to talk to my interior designer Jeff and see what he thinks...i hear he thinks i need a wall of glass somewhere...back of the house I bet...cause i have been thinking that for a while...but then where would we put the fridge and the dw...a girl has to have those!!!

this is a drawing of my son ben with his cat tom...tom usually never sleeps on anyone but he does love his guy ben...evidently ben is getting rid of his "jesus" look as soon as someone paints his picture with his long hair and beard as Jesus...
Fast sketch during faculty meeting...more i look at it the more i think it looks like the teacher...
Lura....this is a drawing of our teacher last friday week...and a sketch following her rules of shading ...meant to ink it but my knitting two pairs of socks, a pair of slippers and most of a HUGE purse got in the way...
One of my really cute students...i am going to do a better sketch of him in wc one day

the kids wanted me to draw a car so i drew this while waiting for my hair appointment downtown..this is ninth street on ri

behind on my daily drawings posts of course

e
so what else is not new??? Here is one I did over several days last week...everything is in full bloom here right now and absolutely gorgeous...along with all this beauty comes the nasty glow of yellow green pollen and all the sneezzzinnnnggg and drrriippping ...dh said the pollen count is considered high if its 110 but lately its been hitting 5800 and yes that's right with all the zeroes...i finally succumbed to taking zyrtex...hadn't wanted too because it makes me sooooo sleepy....but at least the sneezing and itching and dripping is getting more manageable...wonder how much longer the pollen will last???

These are a couple of earlier sketches that I was not happy with...I added what I call my haiku...not sure they really are...and color...like them much better now...so this is the week the pollen started flying...its been almost a month now....groan...I am READY FOR IT to STOP!!!!

BYTW i did try to crop these but the mac was NOT cooperating ...hmmm maybe its all that antihistamine???

Sketches keep on coming...some good some bad

and ya know some are indifferent...my beloved HP 1350xi is driving me nuts with this Mac Book Pro,...it works for a little while and the quits...then I have to download the drivers AGAIN...maybe its about time to get a new zoomy printer to go with my zoomy computer??? ANYWAY here is what i have scanned so far...before the mac said it could not communicate with the HP...

The first one is a cp sketch i did of the tulips before i drew the big one...hmmm am i acutually using the sketchbook as the prep for a bigger sketch??? is it possible?

The next one is one of two or is three pages i drew from All Creatures Great and Small...been watching it off and on getting them from Netflixs...I finally watched the last disk....all of the characters make you want to get out the sketchbook, pause the dvd and draw like crazy...this is Roddy Travers an intinerant tinker/farm hand who thought he was going to have to put his beloved Murphey the dog down because everyone thought Murphey was killing sheep...of course Siegfried cleared Murphey at the last moment and kept James from having to put him down.

Roddy almost drew himself and Murphey a great big hairy white wolf hound looking dog was not as kind to me!

So not to be outdone i drew four more pages of these....one of the old man who thought Murphey was killing his sheep...his face would sort of drape everytime he moved...a very old sheep farmer...a sketch of the a too long faced Sigfried Farnum...then a fast drawing of the partners with their phone number...and well the cow got away from me...was too tired to go back thru the dvd looking for it...and cows are not my thing....but next dvd I will draw some animals...hmmm maybe i just need a dvd of pics of animals I can draw??

OK more fast afterschool sketches of the kids...they love to get my book and figure out who is who...we had another day with Meg ...the hamster trying to draw her and talk about what she was up too...today she was Nipping a Nut...hmmm do hamsters eat nuts...dont remember feeding ours nuts...but hamster food...but its been years and years since we had one...

Last i drew a couple of sketches of two of the teachers while we were in a meeting....one is the back..and the other ...well it does look like her but she looks younger in the sketch..adding in those shadows can definitely get you in trouble! Both with the sketchee and the sketch:>

EDM Challenge 107 and more daily drawings....

I am definitely an NPR junkie. I have all the "talk" NPR programmed into my car radio so that I can drive across SC and never miss a lick of NPR...oddly enough you cannot do that in Georgia. My dh reads the paper cover to cover...I probably should have drawn his lips but this is our local paper thrown in our yard.
Just stuff to draw...have been buying way too many art supplies... When nothing else is holding still long enough to draw...the dogs are good for models:> I love daffodils...these are some in a pot I bought at Publix earlier this week to draw...they are going in the yard when they fade....more fast sketches of kids done thruout the week in spare moments frequently finished at home....especially the inked drawing...some look alot like the kids some dont....but they are all done in just a few seconds...under 5 minutes for the ones that are not just heads...I love all the heads...and the boy after it is probably my favorite.

and a haiku that i wrote....
fingers pointing
children's voices raised
blame is cast

Actually that is a reaction to Jeffs painting called WHO did this? which is on the cover of calendar from first citizen bank but will also be reproduced on tshirts for a hospital in Greenville...more about that later...

A Challenge revisited and some daily drawings and a

a couple of daily sketches...well i did two of those last nite...
While doing the scissor challenge...i kept finding more scissors so SUNDAY i decided to fill up the other page with a pair of two of small scissors...the top pair is a pair of chicken scissors i bought for a friend who died...so I now have them again....and a pair of fly tying scissors...and my fiskars...
MONDAY This is a teapot that I have had for a while...would you believe we have teaparties with it...its drawn with derwent watercolor pencils in the small watercolor molie...

TUESDAY NITE- The Westminister dog show was on last nite so i drew a picture of Jazz lying in state on the new pillows like she had just won the dog show....she is best in show to us!!!

I also drew a series of very quick sketches of Tom kept trying to annoy big kitty thru the window last nite...big kitty cant get in and tom was rubbing it in...

My brother in laws bday quilt finished on Saturday...even the binding...its has wool batting...

A log cabin...going to add a small red border and a black and white polka dot with fused applique border...think it will be gorgeous...of course at the rate i am sewing that will take a year or two since all i seem to do is draw...i have not even bought a scrap of fabric this month...i must be SICKKKK ...if i dont it will be the first month in hmmm ten years??? Wonder if i can make it...half way there!
