DAY 77- More Contour Drawings of Birds

The doves just stand there and actually feel like they are watching you at times.  If I worked on this some more I would add the purply blue tombow marker to it. I just discovered it today.

Doves have more blue on it than mine do but I didn't think I had the right color of marker to do this. Another one with a wrong date! Since I have retired I don't pay much attention to the date even though it's right there on my iphone!!

A favorite ...all except for the feet!  What's with the feet?? And the date...how did I manage that??!

One of my favorites and one of the first ones I did...I just like the way he stands there. This piece of cardstock had some pencil marks on it ...I decided to use it anyway...sort of mixed media.

Not my favorite...bet I need more contrast to show off the bird...Kind of lost on the dark deck.

And here all of them are together.

Day 76 - Birds Contour drawing

Yesterday morning was so lovely and cool I opened all the doors and windows.  It was almost like being outside...the birds were having a great time at the feeder gobbling food.  I decided to try to do contour sketches of them in ink. I did about ten of them.

Today I am going to share some of them with you...I will post the rest tomorrow...blogger is so slow its just IRRITATING me trying to upload the pics!!

Thanks for looking!!

Most were drawn with a regular permanent black ink pen on a piece of 4 1/4 x 5 1/2" card stock.  I tried to look at the bird as I drew it...sort of a contour drawing...not always with the best results but usually interesting...

I got bored waiting for more birds to show up and started coloring them with a variety of markers....usually in the picture with them...but not always!

The pigeons were colored with a variety of markers to get their color...mostly a gold copic and a grey pitt pen. The lettering was done with a pentel brush pen my favorite pen.

This was the last one I drew...a cardinal and a finch sitting on the rail.
Just a few quick lines to give the impression of the bird's shape as they sat on the rail enjoying the morning air.

This one was done on the 20th...for some reason I wrote the wrong date. Maybe too much blogging???  Hard to color a female marker when you don't have the right color of green!! But I tried...Tombow markers!! With a touch of pitt pens...and a copic marker for the feeder.

Day 72 - Out My Back Window

My father and mother in law loved to watch the birds play out their back window...here are a few of the birds they would have seen..

Drawn as I watched them eating and chasing each other on the back porch.

I ran out of room before I saw the nuthatch and the chickadee which are two of my favorites.

Background is done with yellow ochre and cerulean and splattered with a mix of the two. Shadows are  done with ultramarine blue and burnt umber.

all kinds of wild life...

yesterday i was either at the window or out on the backporch alot...and there were birds everywhere...i counted at least 1 blue heron and five white egrets flying buy...The egrets are roosting on a pile of sticks across the river...going to have to try again for a pic of them.....this is using max zoom on the camera...he was 300 yd away...

a jillion canadian geese acting like some one needs to feed them and their babies...they came 300 yd across the river when they spotted my neighbor...Kim was taking pics too..we decided that someone had been feeding the geese...not us...they will mess up your yard ..

this is the closest they have let the babies come so far....i feel like yelling duck for cover...the geese have seen you! hmmm looks like some of the bushes need to be cut back...but i found out that you should leave a buffer zone between your yard and waterways to keep chemicals like fertilizer out of the waterways...so at least we are doing that right...did you hear me neighbors...quit cleaning the banks;>
.and then there was the obliging motorboater who slowed down for pics...:> does this one count as wildlife on the savannah?

at some point i am going to combine the geese with the sycamore pic into one watercolor...thought i could put the geese right in river between the sycamore and the bamboo
