A memory drawing

Drawn in my moleskine with a pigma pen

I was reading Gabis blog(an illustrator for the Seattle newspaper)...and he had posted sketches of the Seattle Ferry...isnt it odd how a picture can trigger memories from your childhood...things you had not thought of in years...this drawing happened in a matter of minutes...great to be back drawing...i tried to imagine what a child would look like hanging on the rail..

ANYWAY Gabi's blog made me remember living in Norfolk VA as a child and how excited i was to go on a trip which always seemed to start with a ferry boat ride ...we had to cross the Chesapeake...and of course we were always on an adventure...to the ship museum..naval museum in Hampton roads, to williamsburg and jamestown or to Mt. Vernon and DC...watching the Marines parade at Henderson Hall or going to the unknown soldier memorial....

of course i liked the water so well that just riding on the big ferry boat was more than enough adventure for me...hanging on the rails watching the water and the land looming up before the boat...and of course mom would dress me up in a spiffy dress or skirt with mary janes ...and my skirts always had suspenders because i was soo skinny...size 4t that the skirts would fall off me...i have since managed to fix that:>

A trip to athens

The boe sent us to a Georgia Reading first class in Athens GA for four days.....i did my own sketch crawl...and drew ALOT of people...the class was in the Classic Center...I drew these during our lunch break...by the last day we were all so stuffed eating THREE big meals a day plus desert we had almost quit ...they put us up in a really nice hotel...The foundry park inn...expense account dinners...we were living the high life!:> EXCEPT for the getting up at the crack of dawn and sitting in classes ALLLLLL DAY long!

Athens is the home of the University of Georgia(GO DAWGS!) Their mascot is the Bulldog, fondly called Uga. He goes to all the games to be sure that Georgia wins...this is one of the forty bulldogs that are all over the city. This one was in the Classic Center and is covered with the names of plays and musicals... When we got out for breaks or lunch...these steps would fill up with cellphone users and smokers...I was having fun entertaining myself adding alot of odd colors that were not normally in the landscape...this is a long series of steps going down to a plaza area...had a great view!

just time for sketching

but i will be coloring these sooner or later...my own coloring book:> These are dried out pigma pen (which were giving me a fit) in my wc molie...and i did mean to color them...sorta david hockney meets maggie in sc:> he did a wall full of his daschunds...still trying to think of something to do for the coin challenge

I sat waiting to do some paperwork the other day in cubby land thinking how mind numbing it must be to sit there all day with never another person to talk to in one of those all by yourself...funny story...there was a lady in the first cubby on the right...i couldnt see her...when she started talking i almost JUMPED out of my skin...VERY unexpected!

Jazz guarding the opposite direction for once...usually shes facing me so she can see what I am up tooo...

we have been worrying about Charley this week..hes just not acting like himself...he wont follow you around all the time...he wont sleep under your feet...like usual...he didnt go on a walk which he normally loves...and he sleeps in places he never used to sleep in.... This is a sketch of him doing something he usually does...stare at the door till someone lets him out...going to add some more sketches of this beloved dog on this page...if he ever gets up..hes upstairs sleeping with my son...one of his fav places to be...

Day Eight in may

OK so these are not so exciting...but i did draw them in public...in fact one of the teachers at the table WATCHED me draw these...and i wasnt even nervous...which in itself is kinda interesting..
Dont you think the lady on the pink paper just looks so sad..she was very heavy....and all of her lines were droopy...she was immaculately dressed and groomed though...nails done, hair just so...

Well now I know why I have been tired!

Its a miracle I got this challenge done when I have done all that I have done this week..three meetings, work and finishing the collaborative quilts, quilting a quilt for a good friends first grandchild, and starting and completely quilting and binding my brother in laws birthday present...thank goodness my friend Connie helped sew it together....

Look at all these drawings on top of all the sewing...I think i drew anything that would hold still long enough for me to draw it in spare moments...some of these were seconds...alot were done in meetings after school.....

And how many sketches??? Seven....if i didnt leave any out...think i will take today off and take A NAP!!!:>

I drew my dhs favorite dog for his valentines present...Jazz poised on a pile of quilts....I used masking tape to lift some of the color...and it works like a charm...prismacolor in large molie...

MONDAY- Another meeting...quilt guild meeting on Monday nite....more opportunities...in my wc moleskine...got to get these colored...
TUESDAY - An after school shower....dont you love the wild red hair??? and its every bit that red...

WEDNESDAY - Baby sitting a first grade class on Wednesday....a sketch of one of the girls who was playing school while waiting for the bus...her "class"ran off while she was teaching them..thier bus was called. And one little boy working hard on the ABC machine...AFTER school...he has a ramrod straight posture...

THURSDAY NITE -This started as a quick pencil sketch to show the kids what a hamster looked like...they had a paper that they had to write the sentence Meg is fast on and then draw the picture...I could not figure out WHAT they were talking about...I had thought Meg was a girl...NOPE she was a hamster...they kept trying to explain to me what she was...finally I asked Ms. Anderson...and the girls HAD drawn pictures of Meg...the hamster:> AND after I drew a Hamster for them...they said she needed all these things...slippers, a necklace....well you get the idea...it was a really fun moment in the day...The girls were drawn from photos i took of them earlier this year...and the bottom one is the spitting image of her...

THURSDAY -Faculty meeting...ripe with opportunity to draw....not the best sketch...think there is tooo much contrast in the colors ...and that white stripe on the nose has GOT to go...but the kindergartners recognized her SOOO it cant be too bad..."fizzle" fight...I thought but no that was "physical fight"...who knew?

A few new sketches...more daily drawings

I am finding these things quite addictive..the more I draw the more I want to draw...

This is a country church yard that I drive by on my way upcountry from Augusta on hwy 28...always have liked the way the two dead firs look...and the old wonky building...prismacolor pencil and ink. I actually pulled over on the side of the road to draw this one.. Would you believe there were fishermen out on the river today...this guy was ALL bundled up...it was 45 outside and the wind was literally howling down the river blowing this guy OPPOSITE the current down the river...not UP the river....and his boat was moving in slow lazy circles past our house...my husband said the perch are running...and they are catching world record sized perch down by the bridge at the end of the neighborhood with a dollfly and the smallest minnow you can find...BUT HES NOT out there fishing:> TOO cold for my dear dh...

EDM Challenge #102

Funny the more I drew the plug the more I got all these funny ideas...like how many do we have in this house...how many different types...which is biggest, smallest...and OH I DONT like to draw skinny little electric cords like on my phone charger...

and a couple of daily drawings of my "pretty feet" as my friend Ille called them at quilt retreat this weekend...I had them propped on the table while I was drawing my apples and oranges with my colored pencils...she said it was because my toes tapered evenly and my high arches....

so I drew them not once but twice...of course the first one ...this one I didnt like...it looks better tonite though! And the second one that I drew last nite...not my favorite...both were very quick sketches....still drawing everyday...Maybe they need a little color??? Somehow these feet are not quite mine!
