Sketching kids

I drew these two kids while they were drawing...they never even noticed they were so engrossed in their work...after two hours of testing they were having a glorious time while thier teacher went to the office to return the tests leaving me in charge....done in my moleskine with a #2 pencil...

And i did a few drawings

they are lobbying for me to draw all the kindergarten kids for mothers day...thats 17 X 4...we shall see...here are a few of the ones that i have done...theres one more ...at work...

This is one of our sweet bright girls...shes such a good girl...she wiggled alot thought...so while it looks like her it could have been better...

And this is one of our sweet tiny boys...i thought he looked so cute with his valentine hat and his hoody ...so i drew him from the back...

I have been helping the kindergarten kids to draw while doing math....we talk about the shapes that make an animal like a bunny...an oval and a circle...and what should be in the picture...like grass...and they ALWAYS want a sun and clouds...

and i draw one for them and they try to draw it ...they do well as long as they know thier shapes...and if we keep this up they will!! Triangles make bows....rectangles for arms and legs...ovals for feet and bodies...you get the idea...they love it...

well is this day two or three of may...

l

JUST FOR FUN

what day in may is this anyway??? the third?? right?? okay so far i am one drawing ahead for the month now...my poor molie is languishing in my bag this week...
THE BEGINNING
OKAY so WHY did i post three sketches...two of which you have seen...they are all the same little girl...so you could see how shes changed...i still think my fav one is the one from the back..something about a little kid curled up that is just SOOO cute!
THE END
I really like the sketchier look but it seems to get an exact likeness you have to shade with your pencil...not sure i like that but she turned out like a twin...hmmm how artistic is it to do a portrait that is close to a photo of a person??? ANYWAY problems with the first one..her nose was too long...almost always do that...her mouth ...now how did i do this ...her mouth was OFF center...poor baby...and her eyes were a hair or two too wide...fixing that got her to come out and visit...and it is like they are coming out to visit you when they appear on the paper looking just like themselves...its always such a surprise to me ...dont know why ...when they appear!!!

THis is the last of the sketches for mothers day ...thank goodness...and this one looks JUST like him too..he was not nearly the pain the little girl was although in real life its just the opposite...shes a sweety and hes a little on the fiesty side.

ANYWAY thats it the end KAPUT ...HALLELUJAH all 17 of them are done...

A couple of new sketches

tired of looking at kids yet??? they are too funny to me...their antics....here are some more of them...these were stressing out as they have to pass the test to go to the next grade...if they dont they will be in summer school and have to pass the test there or back in thier grade till they do pass...we may have some VERY tall third and fifth graders soon...

Hmmm i was coveting andrea joseph's fabulous collections...but i guess i am drawing collections too...just different ones...faces!!:> The little girl on the right is not a bad drawing...shes just VERY round....and the boy on the bottom...his spitting image...amazing how sometimes they just pop right onto the paper in seconds...

Oh and i started a shoe drawing craze...they love to draw their shoes since i gave them permission too...who knew...so funny!

.5 to go...Hallelujah....

at least till someone else thinks of a must do for me:>

I have to say i have really been amazed how changing one small line all of a sudden turns a face that was just a face into the person you were trying to draw...its almost magical...

I did cheat alittle trying to get these finished...they are drawn from pictures i took during honors day on Thursday...the two little boys are such wiggle worms and the girl...well i just wanted to get her done!! And i t was MUCH easier drawing them from the pictures...
SOO last nite at 12 pm it seemed like a good idea to wipe this sketch out and redraw it compleletly...with a pony tail instead of pig tails...and the new one looks just like her..almost photographic it looks so much like her......she has the most beautiful skin and it loses something in the black and white sketch...she won the highest average in kindergarten for accelerated reader this day!! YEAH'

OKAY i was looking throw these pictures...thinking he may look angelic BUTTTT hes not...he used to cry all the time but has come miles down the road..and only occasionally indulges in it now...and hes learning so much better...guess what cured him?? STICKERS...he will do anything to earn stickers and keep them on his behavior card...amazing the power of 1 cents worth of sticky paper!!

And this boy is going to break hearts when hes grown up...hands down the handsomest boy in kindergarten but oh sooo naughty....couldnt tell it in this picture...could you???

four more kids and only hmm is it two or three to go???

i think its actually 2 1/2...MY what a difference a day and a new sheet of paper can make...this is her ...as i told the kids...She came to visit us on the paper...its funny one little line will make them appear like magic...it happened several times with this set of pictures...

Someone asked how long it took...each one...maybe a half an hour...I started all of these differently than the others...i drew tick marks for the eyes and nose width which were all equal...and that really helped...then the nose and mouth and eyebrows...last was the outside shape of the face...backwards i think but seemed to work much better!!

The first two are a sweetie pie who i started yesterday and completely started over again today ...the new one looks just like her...she had to wait to be the very last one today because she got called to group and someone took her seat so she couldnt be first today like i promised her yesterday afternoon...she was just tickled to be drawn...one of the other little girls who i drew months ago pouted all day because i did not do her today...she had forgotten that i had done her...

This little boy was sooo tickled and pleased with his portrait once it started to look at him he could not hold still..kept racing around to see how he looked...say "thats me thats me" when i had to erase his nose and move it up he said "dont erase me dont erase me" hes sooo funny...i dont think he quit smiling all day...

This is the little girl with the famous hair bows and barrettes...she had on the prettiest shirt today...like she came dressed to have her portrait drawn...well i did promise her she was next...and she was!!! I think her nose is a touch long but everyone knows who it is...

This one is not done...everyone but me thinks it looks like him...even he thinks it looks like him!!! Stay tuned for more of this one!!!

Hairbowcity

Yesterday the little girls had at least ten different kinds and colors of hairbows in thier hair...and there were only four different girls that had them!

Some of them are the most beautiful clear jelly colors like purple and orange pink and others are baby blue pink and yellow...what a colorful playful array...I know they loved their hair yesterday!! We adults sure did!!! They were beautiful in thier brightly accessorized hair!

Some more kid sketches...do they count as

daily drawings since i seem to be doing them daily....the kids just LOVE them...the first one is just a preliminary sketch..thought you might find that interesting....he was soo funny he kept saying draw me draw me ms hunt and when I finally started after telling him he had to hold still...he tried very hard and would look at me around his nose to see if he was doing it right...of course since none of them hold still he was doing the best job of any of them!! he was too cute...hes the next one...will no doubt be bugging me tomorrow draw me draw me!

this is one of our girls...maybe in ten years...she looks too old...i think its the shape of her face...being a busy pretty princess she is hard to keep up with...more work is needed...

This one turned out pretty much perfect...hes a great kid...a real sweet heart..he was worried i wouldnt get all the buttons on his shirt or his stripes...funny things he worries about

This little kid is a redhead that will steal your heart..hes so genuine...and hes just sooo funny....with the most gorgeous red hair and a flock of freckles...he was trying to pay attention...

Three more drawings of the kids

three more drawings for mothers day presents...only hmmm ten to go??? better get with it:> these look enough like the two boys that the other kids knew who they were...yeah...

WHAT ELSE??? I first scanned all the pictures then when I was having trouble with alot of the pencil showing up I decided to take pics of them too...the pictures turned out much better...but only the first one had a white background although they were all taken with the same setting...the only difference was the kitchen floor showed in the first photo but not in the otheres...I cropped the floor out of this one...

Another thing ...you can see the pencil strokes much better with the photos than with the scans....which was why i took a picture of them. Sometimes the scanner does a terrific job with pencil sketches and sometimes it doesnt...the camera MIGHT change the color but you CAN see all the details....strange....

THE SCAN
funny thing...the cheek on the first boy was wrong...and the picture did not look like him...as soon as I redrew it like one of the other little boys(because he would not hold still enough for me to get his cheek right) it turned into a picture of him...i was soo fascinated by that that i kept telling the other two teachers in the room about it ...just one little change in his cheek brought out the boy we all knew!! He is a very funny little boy who just loves Scooby Doo and will do any work as long as Scooby is involved...PHOTO ON DOCUMENT SETTING

This little boy has so many characteristics like his great eyes and fabulous eyebrows that hes really fairly easy to draw...of course he is such a friendly child we all love him to death! The girls are going to love him!!

this is the picture this little boy drew of me while I was drawing him...actually I think hes pretty talented for a five year old...he got the ears in the right place and the eyes,...and even gave me a neck...he didnt quite get to finish BUT he was off to a great start!!!
This is of one of our sweet girls...its only half done....but shes looking alot like herself so far...

CLock challenge and

a few daily drawings...of great variety...

I was helping one of the fifth grade teachers test today for the 6 or 7th day and I noticed her clock suspended from the ceiling with a string of paperclips...I thought perfect...here is my challenge...so i journaled about the clock when i got home, added a few faces of "kids" the days directions...a few well i call them haikus for lack of a better term...and in general as the kids did today brainstormed what clocks meant to us today and mean from day to day at work...it really was fun..

another cat drawing...tom is so obliging....

the kids LOVE to have me draw them in my book...they dont care if it looks like them or not...here are a few of the latest... they are so funny..they think if you major in art you MUST be famous...and rich...because if you are famous you have to be rich...Oh and the last one is another from watching All Creatures Great and Small...the housekeeper from the special who burnt all the food...even the bit of beef they scrapped together thier rations for....turned out she was allergic to dogs and cats so Siegfrid did not have to suck it up and fire her...of course he did not tell his brother and James....this is in the kitchen at Skeldale house...that is NOT a pipe coming out of her mouth:>
