This is the view out one of our den windows...I guess i need to draw the view out all of our windows they are all so different but the birds love to sit on the branches of these trees...Saturday a bright cardinal rested for a minute or two...and no the branches are NOT growing into the house...just thought it would be fun to draw them that way...the windows on the front of the house are quite narrow...two feet across so i made the "gun slit" wider!:>

Some Christmas envelope art
One thing i NEVER thought I would do was decorate envelopes BUT wouldnt you know I DID IT! and here are four of them....
This is the funny envelope..definitley altered art.....i kept messing it up misspelling the name soooo i had to scribble over it..the postage mark is where the booboo is....and of course the mistake occurred because Santa was stressed so i had to write all over the envelope...of course this is everyone's favorite envelope...
Did I say they are framing them? Now theres a new problem...oddly i am finding envelope art a reason to mail more cards...isnt that odd...have a whole flock of them for my quilt bee...and did about 30 for school...and mailed at least six more...but HOW do you top that for next year?!

A trip to athens
The boe sent us to a Georgia Reading first class in Athens GA for four days.....i did my own sketch crawl...and drew ALOT of people...the class was in the Classic Center...I drew these during our lunch break...by the last day we were all so stuffed eating THREE big meals a day plus desert we had almost quit ...they put us up in a really nice hotel...The foundry park inn...expense account dinners...we were living the high life!:> EXCEPT for the getting up at the crack of dawn and sitting in classes ALLLLLL DAY long!
Athens is the home of the University of Georgia(GO DAWGS!) Their mascot is the Bulldog, fondly called Uga. He goes to all the games to be sure that Georgia wins...this is one of the forty bulldogs that are all over the city. This one was in the Classic Center and is covered with the names of plays and musicals...
When we got out for breaks or lunch...these steps would fill up with cellphone users and smokers...I was having fun entertaining myself adding alot of odd colors that were not normally in the landscape...this is a long series of steps going down to a plaza area...had a great view!

Oh about the sketches...really like the pencil lines of the first one better than the ink in the second...and i found that not all pencils were the same...even if they were #2...two diff pencils on the two pages...

Draw a landscape challenge and curious cattle

I have been wanting to draw this cow pasture for a long time ...on Hwy 28 on the way to McCormick SC from my house...anyway so i pulled over to sketch it...one of the cows...actually i think they are cattle...black angus...kept watching me and actually seemed to be posing.....so i kept drawing the obliging one in its different poses....finally i noticed it was looking at the road repeatedly and so i checked to see what it was looking at....zooming right by us a jillion bikers...

I dont know if it was a road race or the Augusta Bike club out for a morning ride...Hwy 28 gets alot of bike traffic and there are actual maps online of all the bike routes in this area...this is just one of several...the biker is really a compilation of several of them riding by...shirt here, helmet there....they wear such bright colors...like a flock of birds...
Back to the cattle..friend who grew up on a Kansas farm said that they were very curious always checking out what was going on in their surroundings

A challenge??? well maybe but it does look yummy!:>

And not having been to Hardees in a jillion years I had to go by and get one of their biscuits...and boy was it worth it...yummy way better than the last mcdonalds biscuit i had one day on the way to work...that one was like eating a piece of cardboard...I put it on the dash of the car and drew it before i ate it...what self restraint!:>

Some more kid sketches...do they count as
daily drawings since i seem to be doing them daily....the kids just LOVE them...
the first one is just a preliminary sketch..thought you might find that interesting....he was soo funny he kept saying draw me draw me ms hunt and when I finally started after telling him he had to hold still...he tried very hard and would look at me around his nose to see if he was doing it right...of course since none of them hold still he was doing the best job of any of them!! he was too cute...hes the next one...will no doubt be bugging me tomorrow draw me draw me!

this is one of our girls...maybe in ten years...she looks too old...i think its the shape of her face...being a busy pretty princess she is hard to keep up with...more work is needed...

This one turned out pretty much perfect...hes a great kid...a real sweet heart..he was worried i wouldnt get all the buttons on his shirt or his stripes...funny things he worries about

This little kid is a redhead that will steal your heart..hes so genuine...and hes just sooo funny....with the most gorgeous red hair and a flock of freckles...he was trying to pay attention...

So i finally broke down and did

a challenge #114...This is a face jug also called an ugly jug...guess you can see why!:> We call our face jug Dave...hes almost a member of the family always sitting in a place of honor & safety because despite his ugliness hes fairly valuable. He was made by Lanier Meaders back in the 70s. The glaze is called tobacco spit...a strange combination of brown with black. His teeth and eyes are made from a flat white kaolin clay. If he had rock or china teeth which some of them do he would be worth twice as much. We love our Dave anyway and dress him up from time to time..this is Dave ready for the Braves baseball season!
revived the art of face jugs supposedly started by a slave named Dave in Edgefield County South Carolina. Edgefield is about 25 miles from where i live...if this were a real Dave face jug it could be worth more than $100000....BUT our dave is a modern example made in the mountains of north Georgia. Heres a picture of another even uglier one than ours...and I see its gone up in value!! YEAH!

okay so in between knitting and sewing like a

maniac I have been drawing...
GOODNESS COLOR...a journaled page of our class with Kristi that i kept forgetting to scan once i wc penciled it...did i say i really prefer color...i think all of these pages could really benefit from some COLOR!!!
I really liked this living room on one of those designer rooms..going to have to talk to my interior designer Jeff and see what he thinks...i hear he thinks i need a wall of glass somewhere...back of the house I bet...cause i have been thinking that for a while...but then where would we put the fridge and the dw...a girl has to have those!!!this is a drawing of my son ben with his cat tom...tom usually never sleeps on anyone but he does love his guy ben...evidently ben is getting rid of his "jesus" look as soon as someone paints his picture with his long hair and beard as Jesus...

Fast sketch during faculty meeting...more i look at it the more i think it looks like the teacher...
Lura....this is a drawing of our teacher last friday week...and a sketch following her rules of shading ...meant to ink it but my knitting two pairs of socks, a pair of slippers and most of a HUGE purse got in the way...
One of my really cute students...i am going to do a better sketch of him in wc one day
the kids wanted me to draw a car so i drew this while waiting for my hair appointment downtown..this is ninth street on ri

ANOTHER OOPS
daily drawing....hmm I hate hitting the caps lock on the mac and yet I do it all the time...okay this could be the reason i dont have time to post or do my own lately...the first graders are required to do so many writings for thier writing folder....and I was in charge of wrenching one out of them last week...they had to write a brochure and draw pictures about various animals...now what first grader even knows what a brochure is...so I drew this one for them...and some of the various animals we talked about so they could see how to do it...we even got mathy discussing circles, triangles...the shapes of the animals....and they got to use colored pencils...they loved that part:>

behind on my daily drawings posts of course
e
so what else is not new??? Here is one I did over several days last week...everything is in full bloom here right now and absolutely gorgeous...along with all this beauty comes the nasty glow of yellow green pollen and all the sneezzzinnnnggg and drrriippping ...dh said the pollen count is considered high if its 110 but lately its been hitting 5800 and yes that's right with all the zeroes...i finally succumbed to taking zyrtex...hadn't wanted too because it makes me sooooo sleepy....but at least the sneezing and itching and dripping is getting more manageable...wonder how much longer the pollen will last???
These are a couple of earlier sketches that I was not happy with...I added what I call my haiku...not sure they really are...and color...like them much better now...so this is the week the pollen started flying...its been almost a month now....groan...I am READY FOR IT to STOP!!!!
BYTW i did try to crop these but the mac was NOT cooperating ...hmmm maybe its all that antihistamine???

So I promised i would blog our trip to Random
Arts in Saluda NC but darn it took me a while to get to it. We had a terrific time on our trip to Saluda NC to take a class with Kristi Steiner making an altered fabric book...

OK so one of the reasons it took so long was this journal page of our nite and day in the WNC(western North Carolina) mountains of Saluda NC....It takes you from the beginning of our trip to Saluda....if you follow the road.....it was a great trip with great company!!
We spent the nite at a great motel...The Saluda Mountain Lodge....all new, great beds...and an awesome view of the valley...
We went to a terrific little place called the Wildflower Bakery and Cafe for breakfast. The food was awesome....fresh baked breads, danish, a wide assortment of cookies and even fresh dog cookies....YES Kim of course I bought some for my furkids Charley and Jazz!
Then it was on to Random Arts on a lovely spring morning in tiny downtown Saluda NC....here are pics of the town ....Evidently Saluda used to be a booming railroad town with 37 hotels back before the railroad stopped and the depression began....
Shots of Main Street...Saluda is now on the Historic Registry because of all the old buildings...
down the street the other way...this is an old gas station remodeled into a neat little cafe...hear it has great breakfasts...
We parked in back of this suv advertising GS cookies...too funny....
Our fearless leader during this trip...Ille scoping out the store...and upcoming workshops are behind her ...alot of nationally known artists wander thru this shops doors...
Jan the owner of Random Arts chatting the crowd up! And it was very crowded....twenty or so people in this store...Randoms Art started life as a stamp store but evidently was quickly changed to an altered book and art store...the shop is crammed with all kinds of goodies to alter just about anything...
and all kinds of neat things everywhere you look...they even have stuff hanging from the ceilings!!
Lots of goodies for the altered book fan...very interesting stamps...and different from the normal ones at Michaels or Hobby Lobby.....
Ille checking out the stamps...I wish i had gotten some of them...

Shot toward the front door...which
Still shopping
Ille and the owners partner in front of the store...evidently this used to be a movie theater and then a gym for the local highschool.
Kristi Steiner warming up to her subject matter teaching her students altered fabrics.
The class project- an accordion book using 8 different fabric altering techniques...it was alot of fun...and I will blog the little i got done next...meant to work on it when i got home but you know how that is!!!
Ille really working on that piece of fabric. I think i killed at least one or two peic
It was a very busy day and every one was working hard....an awesome lunch was served from the Saluda Grade Restaurant...
These daffodils at the church kept guard over our altered fabrics as they dried....
Margaret and Sue with thier loot...there were two margarets on this trip...

Margaret heading down the block to the grocery store for snacks for the trip home...
Thompsons grocery store....
