Girard College Ginger Cookies

Our family has made this recipe off and on over the years....I posted on FB that i was making a batch...and my niece asked for the recipe...so I scanned it and sent it to her...but its such an old tattered recipe from an old 1950s or 60s cookie book that i decided to post it on my blog too....

Every year at Christmas mom would mix a batch of the dough for us kids to cut out with the jillion red clear plastic cookie cutters that I still have along with a few jillion more. We would frost them and sprinkle them and hang them from the Christmas tree...a hole was cut in them before they were baked....

Somebody on the net suggested frosting them with thinned lemon flavored frosting...drizzly kind...i think that is what i will do to mine...we shall see...

some one even feeds it to their horses because they love it...and its vegan so ok for noncarnivorousness animals...bet La Bella will love them...shes a freak for bread....

a copy of the recipe and a discussion about it is here... http://www.bettycrocker.com/CommunityForums/forums.aspx/13/198

I have that cookbook! It's the absolute best. Way more recipes than the modern edition. It also has *my* favorite Christmas cookie recipe - the light Christmas dough made with honey.
