Hot off the long arm!
So our bee's adopted WWWQ daughter Madeline Lawrence Thibaut is finally all grown up and having a darling baby named Lilly Kate any day now. Ille had a shower at her house and I had been meaning to make one of these small quilts for Maddie for a while...first for her wedding but that didnt happen...I finally got one done for a baby present for the shower...
the finished quilt
feathers everywhere Bound and ready to go....except i still have to add the birthdate...
The feathers are all fmq without marking. The only markings I did were to block off WHERE i wanted the feathers with a blue pen.

Next up I am doing one for my son's friends that got married in Napa...with a grape wreath in the middle with their names and the date and place...think it will make a wonderful wedding present. If you think you need one of these to commemorate a special occasion email me and we will talk!! I think they could also be wonderful done in pink or blue for a baby or in the bride's colors...

PS I also have a serious urge to paint one of these like hmm whose book is that kemshall?? Put some fabric paint on the roller and go for it...I think it could be just wonderful...the Napa quilt may get that treatment...unless i get vetoed by my son and his fiance!

WOW! Beautiful and brave!
Beautiful work!!!
Beautiful!! I have never mastered the feathers.Good job!
From the pure white to the "every color in the crayon box" quilts each immediately pulled my heart. Now I was just googling about quilts and I ran across you. Many quilts I came across were skimmed over, I know those who made them put so much heart into them so I don't mean any ugliness, but then WOW, the passion is off the page and right away the joy and heart of your work is what puts those bumps on our skin. Right away it was hot chocolate time as I knew I had to see more. Already I'm imagining books, calanders and fabric designed by you. Thanks so much for sharing, bev
Wow - the white feaher quilt looks marvellous - and I think everyone is impressed with all those inward curves being bound - no wonder you were questioning the state of your mind! I have done many quilts with a simlar degree of edge shaping, and found facing the dge, in steps bit by bit, a good way to go. If I were really cleaver I guess I would put piping along the edge of the facing - but I'm not that skilled :-) For examples of what I have done in this situation, go to quilts such as Mission Beach, Obiri and others in the Colour Memories gallery on my website, http://www.alisonschwabe.com
If you need it, I am happy to send you (anyone else too for that matter) a pdf of the instructions, but you may not need them if you are an experienced sewer - it is exactly the same procedure as facing a neckline on a dress. I am all for speading knowledge like this that enables people to literally think outside the box/rectangular shape.
Gorgeous! And yes, it is "The Painted Cloth" by Kemshall that features the white quilt painted with an angel. I've often wished to be brave enough to do it as well!
Stunning!!! Your work is beautiful. I have a couple of tops that need some simple quilting for Christmas. Can I contact you via email?
